On March 15, 2025, our team had the privilege of attending the "Stop the Violence" citywide community rally and luncheon, organized by Pastor Chris Owens and Pastor Kenneth Reid in Texarkana, Arkansas. This significant event brought together concerned citizens, community leaders, and advocates united in the mission of reducing violence and promoting unity within our neighborhoods.
The gathering featured an impressive lineup of pastors from various churches, including Bishop Terry Taylor, Pastor Reco Boyd, Bishop Joseph Haddon, Rev. Ray Larry, and Rev. Larry Jordan. Also in attendance were Chief Ed Chattaway, the Arkansas Chief of Police, and Ulysses Brewer, the Ward 4 City Director, alongside numerous dedicated citizens eager to make a difference.
This inaugural meeting served as an introduction to the collective efforts of the community, giving pastors, educators, and residents an opportunity to voice their thoughts and concerns. Pastor Reid emphasized that this would be the first of many gatherings aimed at discussing collaborative strategies to combat violence in our community.
After the rally, participants enjoyed a communal luncheon that fostered further connections and discussions. The atmosphere was vibrant, with individuals from diverse backgrounds coming together to share ideas and strategies for enhancing safety in Texarkana.
We eagerly anticipate attending future meetings to learn about the action plans and solutions that will be implemented to improve our community. We encourage you to mark your calendars for the next event and to bring your youth along so they can engage and share their perspectives.
If you cannot attend these events, we invite you to share your thoughts in the comments below, and we will ensure they reach the committee heads. Together, we can work towards a safer, more united Texarkana!
